SAMURAI
Primary Weapon Types: Katana
Armor Class: Medium
This class hails exclusively from Limberry with the House of Elmdore as its liege lord in the ways of Bushido. As far as Limberry is concerned, the samurai is its version of a knight and those who have dedicated their lives to mastering the discipline are considered noble by that regard. Titles and lordship are granted to samurai who have proven themselves repeatedly in battle and fight with the highest of honor.
The samurai is a warrior who favors speed and accuracy when it comes to the ways of the blade. Prayers of Heresy has re-designed the samurai class a little so that it does not have to find each corresponding sword in order to perform each of their attacks. Instead, a Samurai may utilize any type of katana to perform any of their available attacks below, with the explicit exception of Masamune and Chirijiraden. Unlike other melee-based warriors, the samurai’s skills utilize the power of spirits and ghosts to attack a target’s soul directly. The samurai is particularly effective against stopping or sealing a magic-user’s abilities since the skills are spiritual in nature.
Instead of random breaking, each Katana will have a certain number of “Break Points”. Break points are the calculated life of the sword before it will shatter from overuse. This system only applies when the samurai is performing one of the skills below and does not apply to “generic battle.” If you do not have enough Break Points left on your sword to perform a skill, then you will need to do something else. A samurai’s katana can have the break points restored if they take it to a sword-smith.
Katana sword-smiths can be found anywhere in Limberry, but can only be found in a few cities outside of the region such as: The Royal City of Lesalia, Merchant City of Dorter, Port City of Warjilis, and the Trade City of Sal Ghidos.
MAIN SKILLS
The number of Break Points it costs to perform a skill are listed below. Please defer to the katana list in order to determine how many break points each sword has available to the samurai.
- Asura: The Samurai musters an invisible ki that combines with the spirit of Asura to attack its target. This is a mild-mannered attack in comparison to others, but its speed and accuracy make up for its lack of power, and can often be utilized to knock back an enemy.
Break Point Cost: 1
- Koutetsu: Works against a group attack upon the Samurai. The sword summons a vengeful spirit that slashes multiple times at the immediate surrounding enemies and finalizes its blow by shoving them back and away from the Samurai.
Break Point Cost: 2
- Bizen Boat: A chaotic banshee spirit is released in the air and lets out a terrible cry causing the all magic users in the immediate area to feel disoriented and unable to perform their next spell. This affects friend and foe alike.
Break Point Cost: 3
- Murasame: Summons a melancholy spirit to aid a wounded ally. Her tears land upon the wounds and gently heal any mortal gash, slash, or cut wounds upon them.
Break Point Cost: 4
- Heaven's Cloud: A magic status attack that causes the Samurai’s speed to multiply for this particular blow. It’s considered a ‘divine wind’ attack in the sense that the Samurai literally “vanishes” from view as they speedily lunge at their opponent and perform a critical slash attack. This move ignores dodge maneuvers and can stagger the person blocking. (Master class ONLY)
Break Point Cost: 5
- Kiyomori: The spirit of Kiyomori is unleashed and protects the Samurai and his / her allies by deflecting and diverting physical attacks of their enemies. This is the equivalent of a Protect plus Shell spell, in which the amount of protection time is based on the Samurai’s character level. Each level adds 1 posting round of protection, and enemy units will see a ghostly figure constantly getting in their way whenever they try to attack. Kiyomori is not affected by magical status ailments, meaning her protection will last even through time magic, and other mage-based status spells. (Master class ONLY)
Break Point Cost: 5
- Muramasa: Multiple ghosts seep out of the sword, causing mass confusion by having the spirits yank, tug, and transform themselves into nightmare-ish figures in order to allow the Samurai a change to escape in the process. Length of posting round time depends on the Samurai’s character level.
Break Point Cost: 4
- Kikuichimoji: Summons a vengeful samurai spirit that will strike their sword at the heart of a magic caster and temporarily sever the link that allows a mage to summon his / her magic for the amount of posting rounds equivalent to the Samurai’s character level (Non-Combative level does not apply). If this skill is performed with the Chirijiraden katana, the Samurai has the ability to permanently cut a mage’s casting abilities off and rendering all magic-based skills useless. (Master class ONLY)
Break Point Cost: 8
- Masamune: This skill requires that you obtain the Masamune katana in order to perform this skill. The sword itself will summon a spirit that watches over the Samurai’s party and performs regenerative spells for three rounds. Restorative skills can vary from curing status ailments, to regenerating strength or mental energy. This skill can only be used once per day. Rumor has it that if a Samurai commits suicide with the blade, he / she will be able to bring back a fallen warrior of yore from the dead. Doing so will shatter the blade, and the effects are unknown. The administration will reveal the effects in the plot should a character choose this course of action. This sword has no Break Point limitation with the exception of the legendary resurrection skill it possesses. (Master class ONLY)
Break Point Cost: N/A – Cannot be performed by any other sword but the Masamune.
- Chirijiraden: This is considered the most powerful Samurai skill in the arsenal and is required to have this particular sword in order to perform it. The sword engulfs everything within a 20 yard surrounding area in a blaze of blue “fire.” The damage is non-elemental and ignores blocks, dodges, defenses, or immunity to the attack. The skill has been known to raze villages to the ground. Some say that the sword was crafted with the tempering heat of Bahamut’s fury. When the Chirijiraden is performed, the katana loses its power and becomes dull, unable to perform any further Samurai skills until it is manually “recharged” by the power of Bahamut’s Mega Flare attack. Otherwise, this katana has no Break Point except in its weakened state. (Master class ONLY)
Break Point Cost: N/A – Cannot be performed by any other sword but the Chirijiraden.

OTHER SKILLS
- Meatbone Slash: When about to die, the character has the ability to make one last final attempt to attack at semi-full strength and can ignore the Break Point system on their katana. Can only be utilized once per day and, unless they are of a Master or Divine level, will knock them unconscious immediately after the final attack is made.
- Blade Grasp: This special Bushido technique allows the character to avoid bladed attacks by literally gripping the sword or serrated steel without being seriously hurt. It has a low success rate, however, and can be deadly if the technique is used on a person who two character levels or higher than themselves. (Master class ONLY)
- Equip Knife: Character can now attack with a knife. All knives, unless otherwise noted, have a 3 point break limit and the effects are halved.
- Two Hands: Character utilizes a dual-wield style to put more power behind the attacks but ultimately lowering their defenses. This state lasts for three rounds and can only be used once per battle. (Master class ONLY)
- Walk on Water: Due to a special manipulation of their ki, the samurai is capable of walking, running, and stopping on shallow water. (Master class ONLY)
