Only you can set your course as the ebb and flow of time starts a new chapter in Prayers of Heresy.
Now that the War of the Lions is over...
Ever since Ramza defeated the Holy Seraph Ultima the Kingdom of Ivalice has been in a state of rebuilding. The War of the Lions left many establishments scrambling to find new leaders, and noble families perished without many heirs to take their place.
A year has passed since the war ended and Ivalice is beginning a slow road to recovery all thanks to the new royal family: King Delita Heiral and Queen Ovelia Atkascha. Under their guidance and wisdom a new age has begun to construct hope again for the people. The king is passing laws that are changing the way Ivalice views its citizens. The tides have turned to where the nobility are finding themselves punished for treating commoners like mere chattel. Taxes have been raised considerably to help funnel new projects such as public education along with research and development, and the nobles are feeling the financial pinch that reminds them of the horrible days of the Fifty Year War prior.
Meanwhile the Church of Glabados is still licking its wounds, as the two-faced commoner that twisted the tables on them now revels in the title of high king. Despite the critical debacle that was the resurrection of Saint Ajora, new members of the church are pressing forward again. This time they’re not intending to fall prey to the Lucavi, but when have intentions ever come to fruition without paying some kind of price?
While all may seem well on the surface, the underlying layers of prestige and politics tell a different story. With the Beoulve family name smeared beyond repair, and Ramza’s sacrifice goes unnoticed while an ex-friend claims the glory, the allies of the real Hero of Ivalice begin a new quest: To reveal the truth of the War of the Lions to the public. Led by Orran Durai, the Messengers of Beoulve rally together in secret as he scribes the tombs of truth known only as The Durai Report. Word of this got out to the King when one of the messengers was actually found to be a mole. Despite having the informant murdered by the Messengers shortly after his true intentions were revealed, the damage is already done.
Armed with this information, King Delita and the Church of Glabados have formed a temporary alliance with each other to hunt down and extricate the source before it’s leaked at an inopportune time to the public. As if things weren’t unstable enough, rumors have flittered about Ivalice that the infant Prince Orinus Atkashcha may still be alive and well somewhere in safety. With no male heir to accede him, and Prince Orinus’ whereabouts still undefined, Delita now faces two major issues that he’ll have to tackle before his reign as sovereign is indefinitely solidified.
Then there is the problem with the Lucavi. Despite being put back to bed by force at the hand of Ramza and his crew, the Holy Seraph has no intention of calling this a complete defeat just yet. However her activities have caught the attention of the elder gods and once again they are greatly displeased with her. As Ultima’s ambitions attempt to surface upon Ivalice, it will now be a race against the clock with the Espers of Light aiming to claim a mortal champion with the Zodiac stones to thwart the Holy Seraph and her fellow Lucavi.
The possibilities of where you fit into this story are vast. Which path of destiny will you take? Will you aide your new king and queen to a golden age of opportunity that could lead you in the direction of once again flying the skies and basking in the glory of a higher civilization? Do you yearn to seek the truth of what history has buried and left behind? Or will you see to it that Ivalice finally falls prey to its ever-lasting death?
