Gender Roles & Equality
In the realm of Final Fantasy Tactics the issue of gender roles are muted on certain levels. The world of Ivalice heavily follows that of a European feudal society in the fact that male heirs are favored to inherit over female heirs. All of the political and religious leaders are, for the most part, men. However, throughout the game it appears that both men and women serve equality in all of the various occupations. Also, if there are no male heirs within the immediate bloodline it appears customary to default to the eldest female heir of direct blood decent before it transitions to another branch of the family tree.
The biggest contention within Ivalice is rank. Rank trumps gender in regards to how an individual is treated. For the most part, many of the characters who were insulted or spoken down towards were all due to their origins of birth with stigmatized behaviors, and never a result of their gender. Even Delita, who insults Princess Ovelia in the game, insults her birthright and privilege and not because she's a woman. The same goes for Argath who insults all commoners, men and women alike, as nothing more than animals to be treated by those of nobility as they please. While Delita is currently trying to abolish this social mindset to some varying degree, it is still heavily commonplace within the nobility and figureheads of the Glabados Church.
Ultimately this goes to show that while Ivalice might favor men to inherit, it does not favor gender in regards to social stigmas or treatment. Therefore, while it is okay to have characters who might be sexist to some degree, it is not commonplace. All men and women are treated equal at their job occupations and opportunities. Show of skill trumps gender in this regard.
Also, racism is not something that comes into play within the game. Therefore it will not be considered canon commonplace with character applications. Instead, pride of citizenship would be a better replacement. There are other kingdoms such as Ordallia and Romanda of which Ivalice has warred with constantly in history. Harboring deep resentment for citizens of outside kingdoms is not unheard of and will be considered canon commonplace within character applications.
